The Model 1897 is renowned for its reliability, exposed hammer, slam-fire capability (hold trigger and pump), and legendary performance in hunting, sport, and even historical military contexts.

Condition:

Near excellent overall for its age. The bluing is beautiful, deep, and retains strong coverage with excellent shine and minimal wear—appears original (though I cannot 100% guarantee as it’s over a century old; no signs of heavy refinishing visible). Metal surfaces show light handling marks and very minor edge wear consistent with careful use, but no pitting, rust, or major blemishes. Bore is clean and bright. Action is smooth, tight, and functions perfectly—pumps crisply with no looseness. Stock I solid walnut with good fit, minor dings/scratches from age/use, but no cracks or major damage. Finish on wood is warm and attractive.

The only modification: A brown Supreme ventilated recoil pad has been added to the buttstock (replaces the original crescent metal buttplate). This is a common, practical upgrade for comfort during extended shooting, and it does not detract from the gun’s collectible appeal—many collectors appreciate it for shootability. The pad shows light wear but is in very good condition.
